2. Student jersey design contest.
5. Bikes and equipment are available….

1. High School Mountain Biking is here: The Texas High School Cycling League is expanding into mountain biking as of this fall. It has taken us two years to finally get here but we are finally putting together a small, trial MTB series. Details are still being worked out but the first race which is definite is Labor Day Weekend at Camp Eagle. The full tentative schedule is this…
Sept. 4-5: Camp Eagle Classic Mountain Bike Festival: Rocksprings, TX Race Flyer Register
Oct. 2-3: Texas A&M MTB Race Collegiate and HS: Bryan, TX TENTATIVE
Oct. 16-17: Dave Boyd Huntsville Classic: Huntsville, TX TENTATIVE
The exact category and points scoring schedule is still being worked out and we are open to other MTB races too so let me know ASAP if you would like to put together a HS MTB race or include HS categories in an existing race.

2. Student jersey design contest. The league would like to provide leader’s jerseys to the H.S. road race series leaders each week next Spring. This means that we need a jersey design so we are holding a jersey design contest. Design the series leader jersey for
next spring’s HS Road series. Designs must be submitted to me via e-mail by September 1st. Following which a committee will narrow down the designs to a top few and we will have open voting throughout the league. The design/Jersey should include the words Texas High School Cycling League fairly prominently in at least one place and it should include one or both of the league’s logos which can be found in the attached word document. The jersey should also prominently say or indicate H.S. Series Leader or similar and it should have at least one or two spaces vacant or available for league use placing league sponsor’s logos. No other sponsor/business logos should be present. Template pack in illustrator here: Template pack in PDF here:

3. Volunteers needed for HS Rule committee. The league is looking for people willing to help evaluate the current
rules and suggest changes for the coming road season. All meetings will take place via email and telephone. I expect the total time to be fairly minimal but the benefit to the league and high school cycling to be quite significant. Possible issues on the table include: dropping one race weekend/score from the overall, limiting the number of races/race weekends, how deep the points go, the sliding scale of points, categories and category guidelines, and more! Please let me know via e-mail if you are interested and willing to be on this committee. I’d like to see at least 5-7 people from across the state.

4. More volunteers needed… for various league tasks including things such as: Website design, maintenance, and pictures…gathering contact information for potential sponsors… fund raising….getting contact information for local media near your community….organizing HS clinics near you….organizing a coaches seminar….helping me run a fund raising raffle/auction this September…. hosting information / recruitment meetings for prospective new clubs/individuals. Some of these tasks are one time deals while others could be an on-going commitment. If interested please e-mail me your area of interest.

5. Bikes and equipment available for existing and new high school clubs across the state. Bikes and such can be expensive. The league has bikes, uniforms, shoes, trainers, and a bunch of misc. equipment available to be loaned out to high school clubs/teams that need it for student club members. Just let me know what you need and if we have it we’ll get the stuff to you somehow. Seriously I have several bikes and boxes of shoes / jerseys just sitting around taking up space.

That’s all for now! Lets get ready for the new school year!

The end of the high school season has come and gone and our new (hopefully annual) end of season “Best of Texas High School Cycling League 2010 Survey” is ready for your votes. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/highschoolsurvey2010

Who is the best team? What was the best race? Funniest moment of the season? Biggest crash? and more… we want to know the answers so please pass this along to all your riders, parents, and coaches. Voting ends next Wednesday, May 19th

——

Riders, coaches, and parents of the Texas High School Cycling League,

I’m sure you’ve been having a great time this season, and now I’m asking you to share that with the rest of us.

This survey reflects only my thoughts and does not represent
the TXHCCYL, SCCCC, USAC, TXBRA, Jesuit, NSF, NASA, DEA or any other organization with an acronym for a name. Survey submission gives me the right to edit and distribute results, but I won’t be responsible for ridiculous concerns like accuracy.

Be as verbose as you like; supporting evidence such as photos, numerical measurements, and formal proofs will be held in high regard.

To submit photographic evidence along with your survey
answers, please send it to me by email at SCCCCsurvey@gmail.com
In order to not confuse me, please clearly tag both the survey answer and the email so that I know which photo is in support of which answer. I will do my best to keep you anonymous.

For example:
- in the survey, say “That kid from BLAH had the best
victory salute in that DFW race. I’m sending you a
photo — Johnny, Jetstream”
- and in the email again say, “That kid from BLAH had the best victory salute in that DFW race. – Johnny, Jetstream”

Captains & coaches please pass this request along to all your riders, I want to hear from as many as possible! Thanks for
participating!

Can you feel the High School Cycling LOOOOOOVE ????
